Wolf Moon - -Anchorage, AK



The full moon rises next to St. Innocent Russian Orthodox Church on Turpin in East Anchorage on Friday January 29, 2009. The moon called the wolf moon in native American tradition is the largest full moon of the year.

Because it is at its closest approach to the Earth it appears to be 30 percent larger and 14 percent brighter according to the National Geographic web site. The moon came to within 221, 577 miles of Earth and Mars made its closest approach to Earth on January 27th and is still bright and can be seen to the left of the moon. The moon was full at 9:19 P. M. on Friday over Anchorage.
